Pie in the Sky Adventures #62
Revisiting Sausalito: Old Friends, Fond Memories, and the Road Ahead
Thanks for joining me. We are at the end of a short visit to our old home town, Sausalito. It has been a whirlwind of quality time with son Colin and friends we have known for 40 years, including our fellow world explorers, Chris, Elizabeth, Colin and Brad.
Tomorrow we leave for Korea and Chiang Mai, Thailand. Teri and I are as ready as we'll ever be to ‘jump off’ once again. It’s exciting!
Here in Sausalito we are having great fun retracing walks along the waterfront visiting old haunts with believe it or not - - The ‘Red Legs’ band from the ‘Gates’ and a long time ago. Here they are playing to a ‘day’ crowd at the “No Name Bar”".
Everything we see is from a long time ago as we sailed off in the early ‘80’s.
It’s wonderful to have this time here and we are reminded daily of why we made the choices we have made.
This morning’s walk took us to Galilee houseboat community where Teri and I had the houseboat “Emily”, a 36’ double ended converted lifeboat.
We were ‘Grandfathered in' because of my waterfront experience including being the first commercial fisherman to have a female crew in the first year of the ‘Herring’ Season. Ah! Those were the days.
We had just run out of money in Brisbane, Australia, managed to return to the land of money, plugged in and replenished the kitty in an area that we knew well. We stayed a year in the “Emily”, made enough money to continue on and left for the Caribbean.
Well out with the old and open the doors to the new.
I ramble.
I’m really looking forward to checking in a week from Friday
from Chiang Mai. We will give you an idea of what moves us there, and what’s changed in the 10 years since we were there. We love you and wish you all the happiness that you deserve! Don and Teri
I’d love the backstory on your feelings about being back there. Meaning “glad we made the choices we did”. Very white after here no doubt. Have grand adventures and keep us posted about your health. Xxx
It was so nice spending a little time with you guys and Brad and Collin! Happy trails to you til we meat again.
